Funding Criteria
To be considered, interventions must be:
- Strategic: Linked to a broader plan for structural change in advancing women's rights.
- Unanticipated: Addressing opportunities or challenges that could not have been foreseen or planned for.
- Time Urgent: Actions must be implemented within three months to remain effective.
- Sustainable: Applicants must demonstrate capacity to carry out the initiative and secure future support.
- Supported: The initiative must have backing from local or global actors in women's rights or related fields.
Types of Grants
UAF-Africa offers three distinct grant pathways:
1. Rapid Response Grants
- For catalytic interventions that must be implemented within 3 months.
- Ideal for immediate advocacy, mobilization, or urgent action.
2. Advocacy & Alliance Building Grants
- For initiatives focused on policy influence and advocacy.
- Duration: 6-12 months.
- Supports coalition-building and long-term advocacy strategies.
3. Protection Grants
- For safeguarding the safety, security, and wellbeing of individuals, staff, movements, or organizations.
- May include strengthening organizational security systems or providing urgent protection measures.

- Women-led groups, movements, and organizations across all African countries.
- Applicants must be actively engaged in advancing women's human rights.
- Proposals should demonstrate urgency, strategic relevance, and sustainability.
