Applications are now open for the 2026/2027 University of Oxford Reuters Institute Journalism Fellowship Programme. This world-renowned fellowship offers practising, mid-career journalists the chance to take time out from their daily work to explore journalism in depth.
Through personal research, seminars, networking events, and peer discussions, fellows gain a deeper understanding of journalism, the global news industry, and their role within it. Each fellow undertakes a project designed to have direct impact on their career, newsroom, and the wider media industry.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
– Have a minimum of five years journalistic experience (or equivalent expertise in rare cases)
– Be practising journalists (freelancers are welcome)
– Not be working in public affairs, public relations, or corporate communications
– Plan to return to journalism after completing the fellowship
– Be able to participate in discussions in English (formal testing is not required)
The fellowship is open to journalists from all regions of the world, including Africa.
Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants will receive:
– Full coverage of programme fees
– A monthly stipend of A?2,000 (sufficient for accommodation, food, and living expenses)

Approximately 30 Journalist Fellows are selected each year, bringing diverse insights and experiences to Oxford.
