Eligibility

"This role is open to candidates based in any CHAI program country, pending leadership approval and appropriate work authorization. Candidates should be able to accommodate overlapping working hours with US Eastern Time (ET) to facilitate team collaboration."

Ghana is a CHAI program country, so applicants based in Ghana may apply. Selection remains subject to leadership approval and to the applicant holding appropriate work authorisation.

Position overview

CHAI is seeking a highly motivated individual with public health experience and analytical skills to work with CHAI’s programme and country teams and government counterparts to conduct epidemiological analysis, model programme impact and cost-effectiveness, monitor and evaluate the success of ongoing efforts, and translate results for decision-makers. The Technical Advisor will work across CHAI’s programme portfolio, building, pressure-testing and communicating analytical evidence to support strategic decisions, developing and refining cost-effectiveness analyses, conducting rigorous pressure-tests of programme theories of change, and preparing clear analytical outputs and presentations for CHAI senior leadership and major philanthropic funders.

Responsibilities

Analytics and modelling

  • Apply quantitative and geospatial methods to support CHAI country teams in identifying high-priority programmes, geographic targeting opportunities and health system efficiencies.
  • Build cost-effectiveness models to enable evidence-based programme decision-making.
  • Manage analytical workstreams end-to-end, exercising independent judgment on methodological approach and analytical depth.
  • Appropriately utilise large-scale datasets (for example GBD, DHS, national surveys, IHME datasets, implementation cost data).
  • Collaborate across CHAI’s disease and geographic programmes to gather inputs, validate analytical assumptions and ensure models reflect on-the-ground programme realities.

Evidence-based programme development and technical leadership

  • Lead a portfolio of work, setting long-term strategy, identifying medium-term priorities and defining a workplan.
  • Support the design and implementation of new pilot programmes, leveraging existing evidence and data.
  • Conduct rigorous pressure-tests of programme theories of change, including critical review of evidence, interrogation of key assumptions, and assessment of causal pathways and counterfactual scenarios.

Stakeholder engagement and donor deliverables

  • Translate complex modelling and analytical work into clear, concise outputs for CHAI senior leadership and major philanthropic funders.
  • Support CHAI’s engagement with major funders by preparing evidence-based materials.
  • Collaborate across CHAI country teams and government partners to ensure feasibility and alignment of interventions within national health systems.

Qualifications

  • Education and experience: postgraduate degree in epidemiology, economics or a related quantitative discipline; 7+ years of experience applying quantitative methods to global health or development challenges, including cost-effectiveness analysis, impact evaluations and mathematical modelling.
  • Technical: exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills, with proven capacity to pressure-test complex theories of change; excellent skills in data management and statistical analysis, including Stata, R or SAS; experience in cost-effectiveness modelling and evaluation design (including causal inference using observational data); experience assessing and reconciling data quality issues across large survey and administrative datasets, particularly in multi-country settings; strong understanding of the LMIC health systems context.
  • Operational: strong communication skills, including the proven ability to translate research into policy recommendations and present complex quantitative findings to donors, government stakeholders and diverse audiences; demonstrated fluency in using AI tools to synthesise information and produce high-quality analytical outputs, paired with judgment to critically evaluate AI-generated work; proven ability to work independently on an ambiguous, early-stage concept and drive work to a donor-ready final product; commitment to collaborative work with a remote, geographically dispersed team across multiple time zones; fluency in English.
  • Preferred: direct experience collaborating with donors in global health and development, including drafting concept notes or proposals; experience reviewing or quality-checking others’ analytical work and/or mentoring junior analytical staff; experience using geospatial methods for budget optimization, programme targeting or subnational prioritization; proficiency in one or more languages spoken in CHAI countries.
