DAAD Hilde Domin Scholarships 2026/2027 for At-Risk Students and Researchers

Applications are now open for the 2026 DAAD Hilde Domin Scholarship Programme. Administered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with funding from the Federal Foreign Office (AA), this scholarship supports students and doctoral candidates worldwide who are at risk of being formally or de facto denied educational or other rights in their home countries.
The program provides these individuals with the opportunity to begin or complete a study or research degree at a higher education institution in Germany.

Target Group
– Students aiming for a Master degree
– Doctoral candidates from all academic disciplines (except medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, and law)
– Applicants who can credibly demonstrate threats to their personal well-being or safety (e.g., physical violence, arrest, denial of civil/educational rights)
– Applicants with valid educational certificates enabling entrance to higher education (verified via the anabin database)
– Applicants not already residing in Germany or the European Union at the time of nomination

Funding Period
– Master degree: up to 24 months
– Doctoral degree: up to 48 months

Scholarship Benefits
The scholarship covers:
– Monthly stipend: EUR 992 for Master students, EUR 1,300 for doctoral candidates
– Health, accident, and personal liability insurance
– Travel allowance (based on country of origin or residence)
– Participation in preparatory German language courses (26 months, depending on language proficiency)
– Additional financial benefits as required

Nomination and Application Procedure
– Nominations of suitable candidates by institutions and organizations can be submitted online at any time
– Planned start of studies: Summer semester 2027
