About the project/program
Funded by the Netherlands Directorate General for International Cooperation (DGIS), the Program Soil Values aims to make sustainable management of fertility and soil health a fundamental pillar of agriculture in the Sahel. Implemented by the International Center for Fertilizer Development (IFDC), in consortium with SNV, WUR and knowledge partners (AGRA, IITA, IWMI, ISRIC and CIFOR-ICRAF), it covers 04 implementing countries, including Mali and two strategic countries (Ghana and Ivory Coast), with the ambition of sustainably improving the fertility of 2 million hectares and the resilience of 1.5 million small farmers. As part of the implementation of its communication and knowledge management strategy for the program covering Mali, the program is recruiting a young professional(s) to support efforts to promote, visibility and raise awareness around its actions.
Scope of services
The successful candidate for this position will actively contribute to the implementation of the Program’s communications and knowledge management strategy Soil Values covering Mali. He/she will also ensure compliance with established guidelines and procedures in terms of communication and knowledge management, in close collaboration with the program teams.
Main responsibilities
Produce different formats and types of communication content (newsletters, articles, photos, videos, social media posts, visuals, etc.) on program actions;
Contribute to the organization and coverage of field activities, events and workshops (shooting, interviews, writing reports, reports, etc.);
Support internal communication actions, popularization of agricultural technologies and media partnership in Mali;
Participate in information monitoring on subjects related to agriculture and agricultural policies in the Sahel;
Write an activity report with a presentation of the results and a proposal for recommendations on the popularization of technologies and the dissemination of soil fertility management practices at IFDC;
Participate in other program activities in Mali;
Accomplish any other task entrusted to it within the framework of IFDC-Mali’s activities.
Qualifications required
Student(e) or recent graduate(e) in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or related field (BAC+2, BAC+3 or Master);
Strong interest in agricultural, environmental, climate and sustainable development issues;
Fluency in French, knowledge of English and local languages is an asset;
Good writing skills and creativity in content production.
Knowledge of digital communication tools;
Basic mastery of multimedia production tools appreciated;
Ability to work in the field, interact with communities and collect communication data;
Team spirit, sense of initiative, rigor and ability to adapt.
Main deliverables
The consultant will be responsible for producing the following deliverables:
Communication and knowledge management work plan validated.
Communication content produced and distributed on program media (articles, publications, photos, videos, etc.).
Documentation of program activities (field missions, workshops, events and good practices).
Bank of multimedia resources (photos, videos, testimonials and other communication media) organized and updated.
Knowledge capitalization and management products developed (success stories, best practice sheets, testimonials, capitalization notes, etc.).
Monitoring report(s) on relevant initiatives, innovations and news related to agriculture, soil fertility and sustainable development.
Periodic report(s) on communication activities carried out and results obtained.
Location and duration
This is a national recruitment with a duty station in the IFDC office based in Bamako at Mali with frequent movements in the watersheds of Haut Bani and Middle Baniand of Upper Niger.
The contract has an initial duration of six (06) months, renewable once (01).
Hierarchical relationship and labor relations
The young communications professional(s) is placed under the operational supervision of the program’s communications coordinator who will coordinate his/her activities as indicated in the terms of reference with the support of the National Coordinator Soil Values. However, he or she will work on good collaboration with other members of the technical team Soil Values as well as that of the IFDC administration.
Fees and payment terms
The costs monthly consultation are equal to the equivalence of USD 500 in local currency/month (290,000 CFA francs).
